It may be a year old, but I’ve just recently gotten hooked on Mode7′s simultaneous turn-based, tactics game, Frozen Synapse. It’s got an interesting campaign, awesome multiplayer, all sorts of baked in social functions, a wicked soundtrack, and I got lucky in terms of timing too, because there are big things for it on the horizon with little to no wait required on my part. Like what, you ask? How about new DLC and a mobile/tablet version.
As for what’s in-store for the DLC, they have currently got a new unit, new game mode, something called “hotseat,” the ability to play the campaign in coop, the option to add time limits to each turn, and the addition of 2vAI (with 2v2 planned for a future update). To say that this sort of massive update makes me giddy doesn’t do my excitement justice, but what I’m really stoked about is the mobile/tablet support that’s in the works.
Right now, I believe it’s only being made for iOS devices, but that alone should get them a ton more users to populate servers and give us all more people to play with. In that same vein of thought, the demo is also available to play via OnLive, so hopefully all these efforts will be fruitful in amassing a really good sized and active community.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to make my next move in the games I’m juggling right now. If you need me, check in “the shape.”
